Hi Paul,
Yep, that's the way I've always done it. The hex-head part of the pivot
makes it difficult to do and the stiff springs don't help.

Charlie,

I install the springs on the shoes first and then install the entire
setup
on the backing plate. You have to hold the shoes so the padding is
facing up
(springs joining the 2 shoes) and then you place the ends over the
pivots
and then press the shoes outwards. Hard to explain in an email, but hope
you
get what I'm saying.

Subject: Installing rear brake shoes

Hi All,
Anyone have a good tip on how to make reinstalling the rear brake shoes
a bit easier? I have new return springs and they're making it a bit
difficult to get the shoes over the pivot and cam. Bought one of those
cheap rachet type "quick-clamps" and it will just barely open the gap
enough to go over the cam. Just slips when I try to go further open.
Never had any problem before, but then I've never had new springs
either. Any ideas?
