My dad had a 96 1100i and has about 80+ thousand miles on it and the only
trouble he has had is the starter went out a few months back, which was due
to a bike trip through S. Carolina last year as a tropical storm was running
up the cost. Early valeo starters had trouble when they got water in them,
Other than that the bike has been built proof. His is a FI model, which
they also came in carb form.

If I were to buy a modern guzzi, I don't think I would buy anything newer
than a 97. With the bad engine paint, bad clutches, bad cams, trans
recalls, and bad tanks, I would stick to a older proven model. I would also
stay away from the Quota's, which I think is a very cool bike, due to the
fact that repair parts are getting hard to get for these. My friend works
at a near by dealer and says everything they are ordering for these that is
not a standard across the line part comes back back ordered or NLA and with
the new owners, I don't think they will be spending the money on making
parts for a discontinued model.

Just got the word that a friend of mine is looking for an m/c and his
wife gave him the go ahead to find a bike and join me and Cam for the
National Rally. He is stoked and is now on the search for a bike. He
is intrigued by Guzzi's but is not a wrenching type, so he would
probably need to look at something newer. He likes cruiser styles, and
likes maintenance friendly or low maintenance bikes. I envision he
probably would have the dealer maintain it for him but who knows. What
Guzzi model do you think would be a good fit for him? I think his
budget won't let him go more than $4000. Harpers had a 94 Cali 1100i
listed for $3250 if I remember correctly. How are they? I also told
him that Marsh Motorcycles is having an open house on May 14th, turns
out he is only about 15 minutes from that dealership.

Appreciate if you can steer him in the right direction.

Thanx!
