We would only put in a cup of diesel to clean the motor with. Filling it
with diesel leaves to much room for damaging something.

I do not claim that this will do any good, and if you hurt yourself, I'm
sorry but I'm not responsible.
That said:
On old cars about once a year or other year, when we changed the oil, we
would clean the block out. To do this we replaced the engine oil with
diesel. Run the motor for about a minute, shut it off, drain, and replace
with diesel. We did that three times. Then replace with cheap oil, run for
a minute, drain and replace oil filter and fill with the oil you want.
Not sure if it really helped, but it made us (teenagers) feel better.
With diesel, the flashpoint is fairly high, so be careful about spilling it,
and don't let the motor warm up. If it does, let it cool back down.
Diesel does have a lot of detergent in it, so I suppose that's why we
thought it would clean out sludge.

The manual says after you clean crud out of the oil "filter" you
should "flush the engine." How is that accomplished?
