The serial no. of the '76 Convert engine in Sophia is VG 130077, yours
is likely from a slightly later Convert or G5. The V7 Sport, 850T, T3,
G5, Convert, SP and LeMans with round-head engines all use the same
valve clearance spec. (.009"in./.009"ex.) according to Guzziology.
So I have been setting my valves incorrectly! I was setting them at

Could be the check ball in the accelerator pump plungers is stuck or the
plungers themselves are installed incorrectly. Might not be a bad idea
to buy a pair of kits from MG Cycle and clean the carbs if they haven't
been recently (or just drop the float bowls, remove the main jet and
it's holder - the plunger should come out then).
I bought and installed carb set from MG 1 1/2 years ago, so the carbs
should be OK. I will check to see if everything is OK in the carbs just
in case maybe spray a little carb cleaner in there to get some gunk out.
This does help, thank you. i will check the O ring to see the
The aluminum plug covering the top (12 o'clock position as you face the
head) head nut uses an o-ring as a seal. These will get hard and leak
after a while, dripping down the "valley" cast into the head and onto
the plug and/or wire - simply replace the o-ring. Better course of
action is to retrofit the steel plugs and aluminum crush washers from an

condition. I hate to bring this up because of the taboo of another oil
thread, but I have been using synthetic oil (mobil 1 20/50) the past two
years and oil seems to be everywhere: around the oil pan; rear drive (
spuing from breather tube when riding). Maybe if I went back to a dino
oil this oil seepage will end or at least diminish.
Thanks again, Jol
