That's good. If you ever move or try to sell the thing it will be very
important that those numbers match. The government people have a lot of
difficulty with things that don't match.

 do you have any idea if the titled year, 1968, would be correct for
these numbers?

Possible but likely not. More likely the bike was made in 1967. It was
common practice back in those days to title bikes a year or two after they
were manufactured. This practice is illegal now but was quite acceptable
back in the 60's and even into the 70's. I have a buddy that has a V700 and
his title says something like 1971 on it. That's not right.

 and how many V700s were made?

The serial numbers of V700's that I have listed in my inventory ran from
1xxx to 3xxx. So it is safe to assume that there were at least a couple
thousand made.

 were the ambos made with or after the V700s?

There was a period when the company was shifting production from the V700 to
the Ambassador. It happened in 1968/1969 and these bikes were denoted with
the letter "A" in front of a new five digit serial number (the V700's had 4
digit numbers). The only differences were a bigger bore cylinder and paint
schemes. Most everything else stayed the same. In 1970, Moto Guzzi went to
the full blown production Ambo with bigger valve heads and new styling.


 and what were the main differences between the ambos and the V700s?

Actually quite a bit of difference when you see them side by side. Different
paint schemes, tank, battery covers, and taillight. Engine wise...different
heads (with bigger valves), different gearing on the rear drive.

 anyone else seen them with metal, toploading bags, I feel that they are
period original if not factory?

I don't think that the V700 came with bags but I could be wrong there.
