Let's not get into a lazy comparison- I just dont have the energy for that.

I used to use round pebbles or pea gravel to abrade a rusted tank. Warning
however- don't use limestone, or any carbonate-based rock or it will react
with the acid. Its no big deal, but it'll produce some (carbon dioxide)
gas which might be surprising. Gravel is pretty easy to wash out, and no
chance of dinging the tank from the inside.
And Dave is very, very correct about the glasses, gloves, and old clothes.
I'd even suggest a face shield. And make sure you have a garden hose handy:
just in case.
