Ian
It was good to read your message the day after I fired my 71 up yesterday
After much adjusting and lubing and generally getting into riding condition,
I fired it last night in the garage. After 2-3 revs it started right up
too. Only I had a surprise when I saw sparks coming from around the
battery area.
After shutting down, I couldn't imagine where it was shorting out. Tried
again and then I saw it was from one of the voltage Reg terminals. I had
overlooked a little clip that fell behind the regulator and made a shorter
path to ground. I then realized that the Reg base shouldn't be grounded.
Its a replacement done by PO.
I have it set where it wont arc but I plan to isolate it from ground in the
near future just to be thorough.
Next is getting the plate, but I count seem to lift a tracing off the VIN.

I'll have to take it to a notary. I'll need to drive to the office so they
can witness the #21205
Glad to hear you are thawing out
Pete

Hi All,

Well...up here in the north country things are just starting to happen....
weather wise. Finally after a long winter the temps got warm enough today
to
get me out into the garage and to fire up my 70 Ambo.

I needed to retorque the heads first. It has been about 400 miles since I
turned over the new engine. Although the valve clearances hadn't moved
since
the first engine runs I figured it would be good practice to retorque.

With the rocker covers back on and the battery hooked up it was time. I
don't think the bike rotated more than twice before she fired up....same
as
just before I put her away last fall. Man I love these bikes!

So......a little warmer weather and I will be ready for the first real
ride
of the year. Something about these bikes that make the heart pound.

I hope everyone's bikes fired up after winter like mine did :-)

Regards...Ian
