I made a simple tool to unthread the lower spring holder from the lower tube. find the appropriate size old pipe cut out matching slots w/a grinder, slip it over the inner (top) fork tube, clamp lower fork leg in a vice and then use your pipe wrench on the homemade tool. worked great- don't forget the liquid wrench a day before.
