I once got a new lens by buying a boat tailight at Wally World. It was
exactly the same size as the Guzzi lens.
I have heard that the red clothing dye works, but never tried it.

Nope, wasn't me. Never heard of such a technique. My old Eldo had a
notoriously pink taillight lens. Everyone behind me complained. I was
rather proud of its uniqueness, so it stayed that way until I sold it.
