E.C. Bud.
First thing, I am not a MG mechanic. I have just recently began a slow
dissassembly of my 5 spd trans.

To change the shift return spring, you only have to remove the rear cover
(only?!). It comes off with the cover, at least mine did. It am waiting for
the procedures from Dennis Jones to do a full inspection before I
reassemble.

If you are replacing the spring, make sure it is the newer design. This is
an upgrade that my friend/dealer Larry Klein at GT Motors showed me. Mine
had the older style. The older one has about 2 turns in the loop, then
straight "ears", the newer one has more turns and "elbows" instead of
straight wire.

Does anyone have a step by step manual or written proceedure for
5 speed assembly?
