If it's any consolation, I changed the starter button, starter,
solenoid, battery, cleaned all cables, and adjusted the timing and I
still get a hesitation every now and then. Used to be much worse before

all of the replacements, but I believe some fellow owners say it is
common with these engines, all depends on where in the piston stroke the

bike was shut down, if in the compression stroke, it takes alot of juice

to turn her over.

Been discussed before, you say? Can you stand another go-round? I
recently removed and cleaned up my starter when the solenoid failed. I
had previously cleaned up all starter connections and ground thinking
this combination of maintenance would improve starting.. it didn't. I
have a pushbutton starter on the handlebar. The effect when pushing the
button is a 1 or 2 second delay, followed by a healthy spin. Is this
the deal where you use a relay?.. and if so, don't suppose someone could

walk me thru it? I'm obviously not a electrical whiz.. if not relay
related (maybe I've got that mixed up with some other issue).. should I
just start by replacing the button..? thanks in advance, Bill

Hey Keith,

Does that bike have the ign. switch/key on the side under yer left
cheek or on the top by the instrument panel? My '74 LAPD has the ign
under the seat. I removed the starter button and use the ign switch like
a car (auto return etc.) works like a dream. Only needs a little rewire.

Maybe your swicth can be used in this manner. Just need to make sure
that it's LOW CURRENT going to the switch.
