It prolly would have helped if you could have found a spec on how to set
the float. I haven't been able to find anything in any of the 3 or 4
manuals I have, but what I found by trial and error is that when the
carb is turned upside down (i.e., the valve operated by the float is
seated) the bottom of the float should be about 1/16" above the pilot
jet.
Afterwards I found that someone else had said that the bottom of the
float should be even with the flange between the carb body and float
bowl.
