I had one other item to attend to when I did the transplant of a
complete early (no oil filter) 850T engine/5 sp trans into a '71 Ambo:
I had to do some modifications to the boss under the trans that the
inboard end of the gear shift linkage pivots on. The boss on the T-Trans
was too long - stuck out towards the L/H side of the bike about an inch
farther than the boss on the 4 speed. Also the hole in the boss was too
small for the linkage to fit into. Maybe the linkage used on the Eldo/5
sp is different, but it wasn't all that straight forward going from a 4
sp to a 5 sp on my Ambo. I had to cut the boss down on the trans (high
speed grinder/cut-off wheel) and bore the hole in the boss larger to
accept the linkage.

Hope you have better luck!

Sure will. You can change the rear cover to one from an Eldo if you can
find
one or have the speedo boss machined and the T3 one plugged. That's the
only
difference on the outside. Inside there are a few different o-rings.
