Maybe this helps. The shifter shaft has a black plastic collar on the
opposite end from the splines. Cant tell if it acts as a bushing or as a
way to hold sideways position.
I dont have any position problem with it.

SO it seems the clutch is behaving now. I put about 100 miles on it and
then
re adjusted for the slack. seems okay now.

The floppy shifter is buggin me. I used new pins on the rods and
connectors
and front to back it is pretty good. but side to side, the heel toe
shifter
flops pretty bad. any bushings, washers, bearings I can put in there to
tighten it up?
