Hey Ian,

I missed a bunch of rides/rallies the past 2 years! Don't need the
tranny fixed, it already is. Just the return spring needs to be
installed correctly - this can be done externally through the back
plate. If it doesn't work and the tranny has to come back out, I may
either bring it back to the Guzzi shop and tell them to fix it right
this time or just sell it as is. Hopefully it won't come down to that
though.

 Keith,

Why don't you send the tanny to someone that is familiar with Ambo 4
speeds
and has the time to work on them. I heard that you can get a rebuilt
tranny
(like new I assume) for $225. I would drop that coin in a second to be
bale
to ride the bike.

Call Mark and ship the tranny out. He will find the right person to do
the
work and then you can ride the thing.

By the way...isn't it a Loop Law that you have to ride the bike once a
summer or forfeit the bike to the first guy who claims it? (ME ME!) :-)

I hope you do get that bike running. They are wonderful machines and are
far
nicer on the road than sitting in the shop covered in dust. We also
missed
you at the Adirondak Rally this year.

Regards....Ian

p.s. Happy B Birthday too. Had we known the list could have chipped in a
buck a piece and helped you out with that tranny :-)

 Hey Rich,

Happy belated birthday! Glad to hear your enjoying the Ambo. As for
me, this has been the most unpleasant purchase of an m/c I have ever
had. Not necessarily the bike, but the ordeal of getting it on the
road. I purchased this bike last July and still have yet to truly ride
her.

I got real friendly with my auto mechanic and have actually started
working for him on either Fridays when I'm off or Saturdays. Great
educational experience fixing cars, plus getting cash for the day. The
bike is still sitting in his shop, all dusted over, tank and sidecovers
are off, battery and tray is out, toolbox is also off. Nothing left to
do but figure out how to get that damn return spring back in without
popping out and being able to shift > 2nd gear, plus a fork oil change.
Not much to do, but having been working at the shop for the past 2
months, I understand why he hasn't had a chance to work on it. He is
busy beyond belief, outside of the normal bread and butter jobs (brakes,
tune-ups, exhausts, etc..) he has 7, yes 7 engine replacements to do!
We're talking several thousand dollars a pop, so when it comes to that
or working on my bike, which he is not going to charge me for since we
are now friends, (though I will pay him for the generator rebuild and
probably give him a free day of work), the engine jobs win everytime.
He has planned many times to finish the bike, then something pops up
that draws him back to auto work. It's been so frustrating that I have
just washed my mind of actually owning it. Have even thought of just
putting it back together and selling it with the return spring left to
be re-installed, but I would need to try to recoup my total investment
of at least $4K, would try to sell locally or e-bay it. But, I would
like to at least ride it once it is fixed and allow myself to fall in
lust/love with her since I never had the chance to be romanced by her.
Time will tell, how long it will be I have no idea.

Thanx for remembering me though!!
