The following from Toyota service advisory . VERBATIM:

"NEVER loosen the bolts before you torque them. This is not a good idea.
This will cause damage to the head gasket which is already compressed
and not in favor of recompressing (HKS headgaskets are, but stocks
aren't). Besides that, it screws up the whole torque order, so you will
put too much stress on the head as well!"

Thanks for the support. Hey, I just tried to explain the theory
behind the recommendation (to back off before torquing) because someone
asked for the theory behid it. I wasn't expecting the response from
those list members who also belong to the Flat Earth Society (I'm glad I

can hide behind this computer!).
