Hello Charles,
Thanks to you, Patrick et. al. for the help on the o-ring thing! I have
found that o-rings purchased at Home Depot seem to fit just fine on the 12
o'clock bolt. Is it OK to use these standard plumbing o-rings for the
Ambo.??? Thanks, Bob

Hello All,
Bob has a V700 which along with early Ambassadors has a long, bolt-like
"nut" at
the 12 o'clock position. This is sealed with an o-ring. Yes, Bob, replace
this
o-ring. A little Permatex 300 sealer also wouldn't hurt as well. Cheers,

Charlie

Huh? The 12 oclock stud should have a standard, small o-ring below the
cylinder. Nothing above but a washer and a special Allen headed nut for
the

stud. Perhaps this stud had a leak earlier and the previous owner stuck
an

o-ring up there?? Perhaps this was unique to the very early motor you
have??

(I don't think so.) The only extra o-ring is a big one about 1" in
diameter

used as a seal for the big plug in the head which provides access to the
12

oclock stud. Are you talking about this 12 oclock stud access cover
plug?

The early engines used an aluminum crush washer here as a seal. About
1974

or so, Guzzi modified this access plug with a recess to accept a big
o-ring.

I doubt you have access such cover plugs, but they can be retrofitted
and

perhaps you do. If so, this 0-ring should be replaced almost every time
it

is disturbed because it deforms due to head heat.
