Ted,

Two manifold gaskets are required due to heat from cylinders affecting the
carbs. This could be your problem.

There should be two fibre washers between the manfold and cylinder heads? I
think I only have 1 thick washer.
My bike runs great when first started, UNTIL it warms up. I took the
distributor out yesterday and the springs are VERY loose. As a matter of
fact, one spring doesn't even make contact until the advance is almost
completely open.
I also noticed my right carb is missing the bolt to that clamps the carb to
the manifold. It's pretty tight anyway, but I suppose that is a possiblity
too.

Thanks for all the suggestions everyone, I'll keep working at it.

Carb related. Make sure no air leaks. Do you have the fibre spacers between
the manifold and the cylinder heads? Needs to be two of them.

By the way....my bikes tend to "sputter" a bit until they are nice and warm.
In my opinion the bikes are not "fully warm" after 3-4 minutes. What happens
to the bike after 15 minutes of riding? Be sure that they are "fully warmed
up" before making any assessments.

Wouldn't "missing" be too lean?

Interesting...
