I began assembly of the engine, but found I could not fit the dowel pin back into the front main bearing. I had three dowel pins and none of them would fit. Upon closer examination, I discovered the inner bearing had ever so slightly shifted fore/aft such that the pin would not fit. I fit a 0.004 inch feeler gauge between the lip and the bearing carrier. To remedy, I heated the bearing to 250 degrees and then pressed it back tight such that there was no space between the lip and the bearing carrier. Even with the 250 degree heat, it still took quite a bit with my 12 ton press and then went with a quick pop. To support the base of the carrier and provide a place for the inner bearing to move, I used a 2 inch Forstner bit to drill a recess in a piece of plywood. All in all, it worked well and solved my problem.
